U.K. Prime Minister David Cameron this week will visit Israel and Palestine for the first time since his 2010 election.

He is scheduled to meet Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, as well as addressing the Israeli parliament, officials said.

Cameron had planned to visit the countries in February, but postponed due to the devastating floods that struck the U.K.

His visit comes a week after Netanyahu met Obama at the White House, where the Israeli Prime Minister said that he hopes President Abbas will recognize Israel as a Jewish state. However, Abbas, at the weekend, stated that he will never recognize Israel as a Jewish state.

Israeli - Palestinian direct negotiations began in July 2013 following an attempt by U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry to restart the peace process, but there is little hope for a “breakthrough” agreement.
