The US National Security Agency (NSA) spied on French diplomats in the US, Le Monde newspaper has reported.

The NSA not only spied in France, but also spied on French diplomats in Washington and at the UN, the newspaper claimed.

US spies allegedly hacked foreign networks by introducing spyware into the software of millions of machines.

Bugs were reportedly introduced into the French Embassy in Washington under code name "Wabash" and into the computers of the French delegation at the UN under code name "Blackfoot."

On October 21, Le Monde asserted that the NSA spied on 70.3 million phone calls in France between December 10, 2012 and January 8,  2013.
