At least 10 people have been killed and 15 people have been injured in a blast in the Sultanahmet district on Tuesday morning wounded several people, according to police sources.
It was not immediately clear exactly where the explosion at 10.20 a.m. local time (0820GMT) happened or how many were wounded.
The area, on the European side of Istanbul, is home to the city’s most popular tourist sites, including the Blue Mosque and the Aya Sofya and contains hundreds of hotels and restaurants.
Security forces and medics have been dispatched to the area.
