More than 10,000 Syrians fleeing heated conflict in their country, have crossed the Cilvegozu Border Gate into southern Turkey in the last ten days, said local authorities.
Those injured in the clashes are being transported by their relatives to the border gate, situated in the Reyhanli district of Turkey's southernmost province of Hatay and transferred by ambulance to hospitals across the city.
Elderly in wheelchairs are among the Syrians who have been recently rushing to the Turkish border to escape the violence in the country, local sources said.
The Syrian civil war, which will reach its third-year mark in March, has resulted in the deaths of over 130,000 people and displaced 6.5 million people internally, according to UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
Over two million are now registered as refugees in the neighboring countries of Turkey, Lebanon and Iraq.
According to recent data from Turkish Prime Ministry Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD), the number of Syrian refugees in Turkey that are hosted in border camps and city centers has exceeded 714,000. 70% of the refugees are women and children.Last Mod: 11 Şubat 2014, 15:12
