Sixteen people were killed while another 16 were injured in traffic accidents on the roads across Turkey over the weekend.

The biggest accident took place in the southern province of Kahramanmaraş on Saturday when a minibus collided with a truck, leaving 10 people dead and five injured.

The accident took place on the Pazarcık-Adıyaman highway. İbrahim Doğan (the driver of the minibus), Muharrem Ünal, Suna Avcı, Kübra Doğan, Ayşe Dağınık, Fatma Çelik, Nürsel Dağınık, Esra Avcı, Nazlı Avcı and Ümmani Çelik, traveling in the minibus, were killed at the scene of the accident. Ambulances were dispatched to the scene and the injured rushed to local hospitals soon after the occurrence of the incident.

Justice and Development Party (AK Party) Adıyaman deputy Mehmet Erdoğan visited the injured at Pazarcık State Hospital on Saturday. Speaking to reporters following his visit, Erdoğan said the passengers traveling in the minibus were going to Gaziantep to visit relatives there. “There were 15 people traveling in the minibus; 10 of them died while the remaining five were rescued from the accident. May God have mercy on those who lost their lives. I wish the injured a speedy recovery,” he said.

Five of the people who died were buried in the Çelik village cemetery in the district of Gölbaşı, while Nursel and Ayşe Dağınık were buried in the town of Balkar, also in Gölbaşı, on Saturday afternoon. İbrahim Doğan, Muharrem Ünal and Kübra Doğan were also buried on Sunday.

In another incident, two people were killed while 10 were injured when a minibus collided with a car in the province of Adana on Sunday. The accident occurred in the district of Yüreğir.

One person was killed in a traffic accident in Karaman province on Saturday. An automobile ran over 74-year-old Mehmet Doğan as he was going to the mosque. The elderly man died at the scene. The driver of the car was detained after the incident.

Three people were also killed and one injured in Edremit, Balıkesir province, late on Saturday. The accident took place when an automobile crashed into a parked truck.
