About 404,000 Turkish security personnel will provide protection during the June 7 general election, Turkish Interior Minister Sebahattin Ozturk said in a television interview Friday.

"Security forces, including police and gendarmerie, will absolutely be on duty in the regions believed to be under risk," Ozturk said.

Gendarmerie would also be posted on duty in the rural areas, he added.

Ozturk added that Turkey was fully prepared for Sunday's elections. He wished all Turkish citizens an election experience under safe conditions, where everyone will be allowed to cast their vote for the party they support without any pressure.

Approximately 56 million Turkish citizens are eligible to vote next month in the country's 25th general election to choose 550 lawmakers for the parliament.

Turkey held general election every five years until a 2007 constitutional change, which set the election to every four years.
