Turkey's first strategic transportation plane Airbus A400M that can fly to US from Istanbul without fuel delivery and have the capacity of 37 tons of load, will arrive in Turkey next month.

According to the information obtained by AA correspondent, the partner nations – France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom, Turkey, Belgium, and Luxembourg – signed an agreement in May 2003 to buy 212 aircrafts, and first of the aircrafts was delivered to France in recent days.

The A400M (formerly known as the future large aircraft) is a military transporter designed to meet the requirements of the air forces of Belgium, France, Germany, Spain, Turkey and the UK.

Within the scope of the agreement, Turkish Air Force will receive 10 planes in total until 2018, one plane this year and one next year, then two planes from 2015 till 2018 every year.

Having been produced in Spain, there are few days remaining for the delivery of the Airbus A400M military transportation aircraft to Turkey.

The A400M has the capability to fly distances up to 4,700 nm / 8,700 km, at a cruising altitude up to 37,000 ft, and at a speed of up to Mach 0.72, very similar to that of a turbofan powered airlifter. It can even fly up to 40,000 ft for special operations, and can land on air strip. The A400M can also carry 116 personnel, or paratroops.

A400M program was initiated in 1985, and Turkey joined the project in 1988.
