A group of airport staff in Turkey's eastern city of Erzincan studied sign language to be able to assist hearing-impaired passengers at the airport.

Completing the sign language course, a group of Erzincan airport ground handling services employee and special security members started to passengers with hearing disability.

The course implemented by Turkish General Directorate of Civil Aviation within the framework of "Disabled Accessible Airports" project. Twenty three employees of Turkish Airlines, General Directorate of State Airports Authority and Airport special security company took part at the 120 hours sign language course started in August 2012. One of the trainees completed the course said that they were happy because they would be able to provide service to hearing-impaired passengers along with others.
