Americans prefer less active foreign policy: report

The International Strategic Research Organization (USAK) said in its report on Turkey-US relations that the US did not carry out military intervention without the support of its people as the American people have been feeling battle fatigue since the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.

In the report, it was clearly demonstrated that the number of people who said "it is not worth fighting in Iraq" increased 63 percent while at the same time nearly 80 percent of US people supported withdrawing from Afghanistan.

According to the report, around 70 percent of the people think the Iraq war made the relations between US people and the Muslim world worse.

Another finding of the report shows that the percentage of the people who says "US has to be active in its foreign policy" dropped to its lowest level, 61 percent. For the US people, the most important event in the years between 2001-2013 is "September 11 terrorist attacks" while most of the rest is economic condition and natural disasters.

Almost 70 percent of American people support Turkey's independent and active foreign policy.

The report clearly puts forward Turkish people's view of US, as well. It says the number of Turkish people who is in support of US has decreased mostly because Turkey is left alone in Cyprus and Armenian issues.

The report suggests the transparency between two countries should be increased in order both to give people confidence and stop conspiracy theories related to bilateral relations.
