According to a report which appeared in the Hürriyet daily on Tuesday, the archive, stamped with a seal, was loaded onto a truck headed for Turkey as there was no longer room in the embassy to store the documents. The newspaper claimed that the archive was lost for 48 hours before reaching the border, describing this as a security problem on Ankara's end.
A source from the Foreign Ministry who spoke to Today's Zaman said diplomatic sources supervised the truck during its travel to Turkey, denying claims that it went missing. The diplomatic sources also said that transporting the archive by truck was part of their standard operating procedure.
The Foreign Ministry said the documents in the archive were sorted before being loaded onto the truck, and added that there were no top secret documents in the archive.
The newspaper claimed that it was highly likely that the seal protecting the archive was broken during the time it went missing and was later re-sealed. It did not, however, provide any evidence to support this claim.Last Mod: 19 Temmuz 2013, 09:59
