Police seized a large number of arms in a Libyan-flagged ship off the coast of Istanbul's Tuzla district during customs procedures before the vessel sailed for Libya.

Police units from the Istanbul Customs Enforcement Directorate of Smuggling, Intelligence and Narcotics boarded the ship upon a tip-off and found numerous rifles, pump-action rifles, guns of other models and shotgun shells hidden in various parts of the 57-meter vessel.

As a result of the operation, the ship's captain, I.A., and another crewmember, S.C., were detained. The two men were reportedly jailed pending trial.
