The Cappadocia region in central Turkey, a unique place with fairy chimneys, has become the new camping center of football teams.
In the last two months, a number of football teams from the second and third division leagues preferred Cappadocia to camp and to play preparation matches.
Bahri Kaya, coach of the Giresunspor from the Bank Asya League First Division, told the A.A that the Cappadocia was a great region to camp. "Weather conditions and altitude are wonderful for football teams. We have been camping in the region for eight days. We will stay here for ten days."
Cappadocia is the common name of the field covered by the provinces of Aksaray, Nevsehir, Nigde, Kayseri and Kirsehir in the Central Anatolian region.
Volcanic eruptions occurred in Erciyes, Hasandag and Gulludag in the upper Myosen period. A large tableland was formed from the volcanic tufas together with the erosion of the Kizilirmak river and wind over ten thousands of years, resulting in chimney rocks (Fairy Chimneys) which are considered a wonder of the nature.
