Family and Social Policy Minister Fatma Sahin announced on Friday the details of a government plan to offer a TL 10,000 loan with no interest for newlywed couples, saying that those who will benefit from the plan should be between 18 and 24.
The plan, which aims to encourage young people to get married, was initially made public on Monday via Sahin's Twitter account. Speaking to the press on Friday, Sahin said her ministry has been constantly receiving questions regarding the loan since Monday. She said the plan was only an outline and that they have not worked out all the details yet.
“Our related units are working on the project. Both husband and wife should be aged between 18 and 24 in order to benefit from our loan. As for university graduates, the maximum age limit will be 26. The maximum loan amount will be TL 10,000 and the credit period will be four years, with no repayment required for the first year,” she said.
Sahin added that if any of the applicants are orphans and have stayed in Ministry of Family and Social Policy facilities in the past, the credit period will be five years and the couple does not have to make any repayments for the first two years. If the couple have a baby during the credit period, repayments will be delayed by one more year.
