Czech nationals sentenced for smuggling insects from Turkey

Environment & Forestry Directorate in northwestern province of Edirne has sentenced 6 Czech Republic nationals to pay 171 thousand Turkish Lira in fine on charges of smuggling 6,014 insects belonging to 48 species living in Turkey.

Customs Enforcement teams at Kapikule border pass found the insects in car of a Czech national who was about to leave Turkey a month ago.

Czech nationals Evzen Hajdaj, Kevetoslava Majerova, Adolf Mikyska, Patrik Hajdaj, Tomas Rybarik, and Josef Majer were released after being interrogated.

Each of the Czech nationals was later sentenced to pay 28,490 Turkish Lira on charges of violation of laws on protection of ecological system and biological diversity that form natural environment.
