Two years have passed since the start of the internal conflict in Syria. On the occasion of the beginning of the third year of the uprising, demonstrations are being held in Turkey in support of the Syrian people.
Thousands of members of the Platform of Solidarity with the Syrian People walked from the Fatih Mosque to Sarachane Park in Istanbul after the Friday prayer as part of “Solidarity with the Syrian People Week.”
Fatih Mosque became packed before the Friday prayer. The crowd which prayed at the mosque afterwards opened up a placard in the courtyard reading “A Thousands Salams to the Syrian Intifada,” referring to a greeting of peace.
Slogans were chanted after the emergence of the congregation in the mosque’s courtyard. The crowds moved toward Fevzipasa Street through the mosque’s different gates, chanting “the Syrian people are not alone,” “Murderer Assad will be held accountable,” “Don’t sleep Muslim, look after your brother.”
District's main road, Fevzipasa Street was closed to one-way traffic due to the crowd in which women were at the forefront.
