The ministry of education in Konya and the Turkish Republic’s head prosecution has started an investigation after security camera footage was released of a down syndrome patient being beaten in a rehabilitation center in the city’s Beysehir district.
The assault, which took place on 13 September, is being made against Fatih K., a teacher at the Seydisehir school. The accused also happens to be the husband of the owner of the center. The case was only brought to light when Evren Erbas, who works at the center, began his own investigation.
The video shows Fatih K. pulling the down syndrome patient Ismail E. out of a classroom and beating him in the corridor. It is believed that the beating continued even after Fatih K. moved Ismail E. out of the camera’s viewing range.
After completing his report, Evren Erbas has said he will resign from his post at the school. Ismail E.’s brother Mustafa expressed his family’s shock in saying, ‘We sent my brother to this school so he could get a better education, but seeing this has upset us…we want to authorities to handle this case immediately. My family will press charges against the school owner and Fatih K.’Last Mod: 02 Ekim 2013, 17:38
