The official celebration marking the Day of German Unity was celebrated with the high level of participation in Germany Embassy in Ankara on Thursday.

Along with Germany's Ambassador in Ankara Eberhard Pohl, Turkish Family and Social Policies Minister Fatma Sahin, other ambassadors in Ankara, diplomats, government officials, German actress Wilma Elles participated in the 23rd celebration of German Unity Day on Thursday at the Germany Embassy in Ankara.

"High level of participation is the indicator of strong unity between Turkey and Germany," said Sahin and added, "This shows the importance of unification as the former East and West Germany were unified."

"A strong leader appeared from this reunification after the latest election in Germany. I congratulate Merkel. I hope that Turkey's EU process will be much more stronger with a strong leader," said Sahin.

German Embassy in Ankara marked the 23rd anniversary of 'German reunification', the process in 1990 in which the German Democratic Republic (GDR) also called East Germany joined the Federal Republic of Germany (FRG) which is known as West Germany, and when Berlin reunited into a single city.

Referring to the latest election in Germany with the participation of Turkish origin candidates and voters, Pohl said that "Germany-Turkey relations are at a high level."

The orchestra of the German Air Forces gave a concert at the celebration day.

The Day of German Unity on 3 October has been a German national holiday since the reunification in 1990, when the German reunification was brought out in full force.
