German Federal Ministry announced 2014 as German-Turkish Year of Research, Education and Innovation.

The aim of the organization is to increase awareness of German-Turkish cooperation in research, education and innovation during the course of the Year of Science, according to the ministry.

The celebratory opening event is scheduled to take place on January 23, 2014 in Berlin with attendance of Nihat Ergun, Turkish Minister of Science, Industry and Technology.

Johanna Wanka, Federal Minister of Education and Research, expressed her pleasure towards the partnership with Turkey.

"The Year of Science will be a gain for both countries especially in terms of Turkish origin people living in Germany," Wanka told.

This is the 7th Year of Science organised by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research.

The previous events took place jointly with Egypt, Israel, China, Brazil, South Africa and Russia.
