Turkish President Abdullah Gul said on Wednesday that Turkey becomes a country that sets ambitious goals and reaches these goals one by one.

Speaking at the 5th Izmir Economic Congress, Gul stated Turkey had experienced lots of reforms in the last eleven years.

"The political stability and legal, democratic and economic reforms have contributed greatly to these consequences of political stability in our country."

Reminding that the congress was convened in February 1923 during a recess at the Lausanne Peace Conference, Gul said Izmir Economic Congress had consisted of more than 1,100 Turkish delegates representing agriculture, trade, artisans, and labor, as well as top political leaders, including Mustafa Kemal Ataturk.

The 5th Izmir Economic Congress is organized between October 30 and November 1.

The main theme of the Congress is “Turkish Economy in the light of the Global Economic Restructuring."

The Congress aims to discuss upcoming national policies on various topics, including the Turkish economy in light of global economic developments, rapid and stable economic growth, industrialization, and regional development.

The 5th Izmir Economic Congress will last for three days and have a special session on Izmır’s Expo 2020 candidacy.
