Turkish Minister of Justice Sadullah Ergin mentioned during an appearance on Haberturk TV that the Greek Orthodox Halki Theological Seminary on the island of Heybeliada might be opened.
Ergin responded to questions regarding topics on the agenda, including the state of the Greek Orthodox Halki Theological Seminary. On the issue of the Seminary, he said, “This is among the topics being discussed. We will all witness the result together. It is a political decision, and if it is approved, of course, the Greek Orthodox Halki Theological Seminary can be reopened.”
Established in 1844 on the island of Heybeliada, the Halki Seminary was closed in 1971 under a law that put religious and military training under state control.Last Mod: 31 Temmuz 2013, 15:56
