Kars province recorded the lowest temperature in eastern Anatolia on Thursday morning with minus 23 degrees Celsius.

The Weather Department of the province of Erzurum said the cold weather is severe in eastern Anatolia region.

The lowest weather degrees at night will be minus 23 degrees Celsius in Kars, minus 20 degrees Celsius in Ardahan, minus 19 degrees Celsius in Agri, minus 18 degrees Celsius in Erzincan and minus 5 degrees Celsius in Igdir.

The highest weather degrees will be minus 4 degrees Celsius in Kars and Erzurum, minus 3 degrees Celsius in Ardahan, minus 1 degree Celsius in Agri, 4 degrees Celsius in Erzincan and 7 degrees Celsius in Igdir.

271 village roads in the region including 123 in Agri, 115 in Erzurum, 31 in Kars and 2 in Ardahan have been shut down to motor vehicle traffic due to heavy snowfall.

Erzurum Municipality teams works hard to reopen village roads to traffic.

The snow thickness was 51 cm in Agri, 37 cm in Erzurum, 22 cm in Ardahan and 16 cm in Kars.

Meteorology authorities warned people against icy roads, frost and avalanches.
