A former senior police intelligence officer and a columnist Emre Uslu, Tuncay Opcin and Osman Ozsoy are accused of allegedly providing an ideological basis ahead of the coup attempt through visual and social media, according to the court.

The Istanbul chief public prosecutor's office demanded that the court issue the warrants for the suspects on charges of “attempting to demolish the Republic of Turkey or preventing it from performing its duties”.

According to the Turkish government, the Fetullah Terror Organization, or FETO, led by U.S.-based Fetullah Gulen, was responsible for the deadly July 15 coup attempt that left at least 241 people martyred.

Gulen is accused of leading a long-running campaign to overthrow the Turkish government through the infiltration of state institutions, particularly the military, police, and judiciary, forming what is commonly known as the parallel state.

Another arrest warrant against Uslu was already issued in 2015 as part of a probe into the parallel state.
