Yıldız Technical University has created a noise map of İstanbul and the loudest neighborhood in the city is Maslak.
Seven teams of students from the university recorded noise in different parts of the city for a week. The students then prepared a map according to the data they collected and analyzed.
The map indicates that Maslak, a business district, is the noisiest part of the city, while Sarıyer is the quietest.
The noise pollution map is on display in Yıldız Technical University's department of architecture until March 24.
The Ministry of Environment and Urban Planning has increased the frequency of its inspections for noise pollution across all the 81 provinces and has fined many businesses such as nightclubs a total of TL 863,613 in the last year.
Their inspections found that İstanbul was the loudest city in the country, followed in order by İzmir, Muğla, Antalya, Konya and Çanakkale. The ministry conducted 191 inspections in İstanbul in 2011, resulting in fines of TL 180,921.
