Empty mortar shells and howitzer bullet casings were seized by Turkish customs and enforcement officers in Turkey's northwestern province of Kocaeli on Wednesday, the Turkish Ministry of Customs and Trade stated.
Numerous empty artillery casings for tanks and howitzers, used by the Assad regime against opposition groups, were seized by Turkish officers in an operation.
The ministry's press release stated the value of the found shells and casings stood at 266,000 Turkish Liras ($132,000 USD), and the weight of scrap was more than 20,000 tons.
It is suspected that casings originate from Russia and were brought from Syria with mules.
Around 933 rocket warheads, throught to be en route to Syria, were seized by Turkish police in southern Adana province on November 7.Last Mod: 20 Kasım 2013, 16:41
