According to data gathered from the flight-booking company Skyscanner, Turks mostly chose to travel within the country during the recent Eid al-Fitr holiday that marked the end of Ramadan, a holy month of fasting for Muslims.
The data show that flight searches made for the holiday period between Aug. 2 and 11 suggested that domestic locations were searched the most, while Germany and Britain were next in the listing. Italy, Spain, the United States, Russia, France, Greece and Ukraine followed, respectively.
Skyscanner’s Turkey marketing director, Murat Özkök, commented that the shorter vacation time may have led many to choose domestic travel.
Meanwhile, İstanbul Atatürk Airport broke an all-time record for its flight and passenger traffic on Saturday, the last day of Eid.
According to State Airports Management General Directorate (DHMİ) data, 1,245 flights took off and landed at the airport, bringing the total number of passengers to 145,000. The airport last broke its record on Aug. 2 with 1,216 flights and 138,000 passengers.Last Mod: 13 Ağustos 2013, 11:48
