With more than 20 million users out of a population of 72 million, Turkey is one of the largest markets for social networking website Facebook, a senior company official said on Wednesday.

Turkey was the third biggest country until last week, however Indonesian users have outnumbered Turkish Facebook users, Blake Chandlee, vice president of the company in Europe, said.

Chandlee told a conference in Istanbul that Facebook currently had more than 400 million active users in the world.

According to Facebook's market penetration across the world, United States and United Kingdom are the top two countries with almost 111 million and 24 million users respectively.

Chandlee said 50 percent of Turkish Facebook users log on to the website every day.
