There are a total of 6063 Turkish people in prisons abroad, Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said in a release on Tuesday.
As of September 2013 there are 3,602 Turks in German prisons, 214 in Austria, 307 in France, 253 in the Netherlands, 195 in Belgium, 188 in Greece, 151 in Sweden and 141 in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, 110 in the UK and 902 in several other countries.
Four Turkish citizens are sentenced to death in Iran and Saudi Arabia, Davutoglu said.
"Turkey is attempting to mitigate the punishments of Turkish citizens sentenced to death penalty," he said. "Our citizens do not have enough knowledge of their rights in certain circumstances. Therefore Turkish missions abroad employ legal advisers to help our citizens."
