The terrorist Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) has said it would stop its attacks throughout the three-day Muslim holiday of Eid al-Fitr.
The announcement was made on Sunday in a statement carried by the pro-PKK Fırat news agency. The statement said the PKK would not attack Turkish targets throughout the holiday unless it comes under attack by the Turkish security forces.
The decision comes after an escalation of violence over the past few weeks as dozens of soldiers have been killed in PKK attacks. On Aug. 17 Turkey launched an airstrike on PKK bases in northern Iraq in retaliation for attacks by the terrorist group. The military said around 100 PKK members were killed in the aerial attacks.
