Two people were detained on Friday after security forces found rifle cartridges in a bus that was stopped in the southern Turkish province of Adana, authorities told AA.

The bus, having departed from the southeastern town of Sanliurfa to reach Adana, was not going in the direction of the Syrian border, sources said.

The police stopped the bus on suspicion at an entrance point to the city during routine traffic controls and took it to the special operations department, where it was searched.

A number of automatic rifle cartridges, enfolded in blanket and sack, were found in the trunk.

The driver and one in company were taken into custody. No other passengers were aboard.

The possibility that the bus was bound for "internal terror networks" is being dwelled upon in an ongoing investigation, authorities said.
