The Municipality of Istanbul placed Electronic Detection System (EDS) cameras in 143 locations beginning on April 12, 2007.

The camera system cost the Municipality 45 million TL.

EDS cameras in Istanbul have detected 804,105 traffic violations until the end of March 2010.

The majority of traffic violations involved "running a red light", with a total of 630,575 incidents.

The drivers were issued penalties worth 88.8 million TL for their traffic violations in Istanbul.

There are presently 3,958 cameras at 1,140 different locations in Istanbul.
