Spain defeated New Zealand 101-84 in the last game of Group D of FIBA 2010 World Basketball Championship in the Aegean province of Izmir on Sunday.

Spain beats New Zealand, 'careful' about next rival

The coach of Spain's national basketball team said on Sunday that his team was very happy that it displayed a much better performance than yesterday in the ongoing world championship.

Delivering a statement after Spain's victory against New Zealand in Group D of the FIBA 2010 World Basketball Championship, the team's coach Sergio Scariolo said they had managed to display a successful game and to control the ball both in defense and offense during today's match.

Scariolo said Spain now felt more secure as it staged a better performance compared to Saturday's game.

He also noted that his team had to be careful about its upcoming rival Lithuania.

Commenting on his team's losing the game against Spain, New Zealand's coach Nenad Vucinic said Spain deserved today's victory.

Vucinic also noted that his players had been successful, however, they could have acted more cleverly.
