Turkish police detained an individual suspected of carrying an explosive device outside Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan's offices in Ankara on Thursday.

The suspect was stopped when police fired shots into the air after he claimed that he was carrying a bomb.

On investigating a suspicious device, police found that it was simply a wire and glass putty hoax.

Contrary to earlier reports, the suspect was not killed or injured in the incident.

Streets have been sealed off in the area.

The PM's office identified the suspect as 52-year-old Tugrul Bayir.

So far, it is not believed that he had any connections to terrorist organizations, but it is speculated that he may be suffering from psychological problems.
