A Turkish teenager was injured after a Syrian stray bullet hit in his chest on Saturday, highlighting still perilous security situation in the Turkish side of the border after Kurdish militants largely drove al Qaeda-linked fighters from the area bordering Turkey.

The bullet was fired from Tel Halaf, southwestern wing of Ras al-Ain, just opposite of Şanlıurfa's Ceylanpınar district in southern Turkey, where clashes between Kurdish militants from the Democratic Union Party (PYD) and al Qaeda-linked fighters.

Loud sounds of shells, mortars and gunfire from Ceylanpınar district are reminiscient of previous clashes in the Syrian side of the border, raising tensions in the Turkish border town because past fighting killed four Turkish citizens last month.

Security forces have significantly increased border security after clashes resumed in Ras al-Ayn and surrounding areas.

The Turkish teenager wounded by the stray bullet was identified as Emrah İdek, who was sitting in the yard of his house in Mevlana neighborhood.
Family of the teenager immediately realized that İdek was shot and called an ambulance, which took him to Ceylanpınar State Hospital.
