The Marmaray project, which will connect İstanbul's Asian and European sides via an undersea commuter train line, is nearly completed and test runs will begin on Aug. 1.
Ninety-five percent of the construction work for the Marmaray project has been completed and the first test run will be held on Aug. 1.
Regional Director of the Marmaray project Haluk İbrahim Özmen stated that the majority of the structural work on the Marmaray has been completed except for some local construction work in Sirkeci.
Özmen also noted that they are planning to complete all electromechanical work in all stations by the end of May, adding that as soon as this is completed, they will begin test runs.
The director said that 90 percent of the line work has been completed so far: work on the line is completed, the rails have been laid and scissors crossovers have been placed. Electric and signal systems, wiring and the catenary and assembly work are currently in progress, according to Özmen.
“Our goal is to complete everything by the end of July and make everything work so that we can begin test runs on Aug. 1,” he added.
