Turkey's national air carrier, Turkish Airlines (THY), announced on Monday that all planned flights to Iraq have been cancelled by May 1 because of the Iraqi elections, set to be held on April 30.
Iraqi government forces are battling militant groups linked to Al-Qaeda amid the upcoming elections, raising security issues particularly in the western and northern parts of the country.
Iraq has experienced an increase in violence recently, with recurrent bombings and killing hundreds of people. Most attacks go unclaimed but authorities usually blame Al-Qaeda-linked rebels.
THY planes will not fly to Iraq on April 28, 29 and 30, THY said in a statement.
