Trabzonspor coach Şenol Güneş stepped down from his post after his team was beaten by Elazığspor, one of the relegation candidates in the Spor Toto Super League, on Sunday.
Under the helm of Güneş, Trabzonspor has been suffering from its worst season in the past five years. The 3-1 away loss against Elazığspor dropped the Black Sea Storm, as the team is dubbed, to 11th place in the league table with 24 points while third-from-the-bottom Elazığspor increased its points to 20. Trabzonspor had to play with 10 men on the pitch in the 60th minute after its Czech defender Ondrej Celustka was given marching orders due to double yellow cards. The Trabzon side saw its last win on Dec. 3.
Lackluster Trabzonspor, usually a contender for the league title, has strayed further away from its targets with the Elazığspor defeat. Its undefeated run in the Ziraat Turkish Cup, which is of secondary importance for the league's heavyweights, remains far from satisfying its fans.Last Mod: 27 Ocak 2013, 17:51
