Turkish southeastern province of Van commemorates second anniversary of major earthquake with various events. The earthquake has killed 644 people in the province and has left thousands of people injured and homeless.
Van Governorship organized tree planting event on Wednesday as a start of the range of commemoration events for the memory of 2011 earthquake victims. Alongside with Governorship officials and locals, Prime Ministry Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) representatives, who had taken active role in search and rescue works after the earthquake, also attended the event. Attendees planted 644 trees for 644 people who have lost their lives in the devastating earthquake.
Governorship reports that commemoration events will continue with "International Van Earthquake Symposium" and visits to the graves of victims.
