Turkey's foreign ministry on Sunday denied allegations that the Taliban had opened an office in the country.

"The news in the foreign press, which has been quoted by the Turkish media, do not reflect the reality," Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Tanju Bilgic said.

The Frontier Post, a daily in Pakistan, said a Taliban office had opened in Ankara according to "credible intelligence sources".

Turkey hosted a trilateral meeting with Pakistan and Afghanistan last week. Afghan President Hamid Karzai and Pakistan's Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif met with Turkish President Abdullah Gul during the meeting.

Pakistan is currently holding peace talks with the Taliban.

Turkey condemns attack in Afghanistan

Turkey has condemned a Taliban attack that hit the northern Afghan city Kunar on Sunday.

At least 20 soldiers were killed when the Taliban attacked a military checkpoint, Afghan Defense Ministry Ministry Zahir Azimi said in a written statement.

Turkey's Foreign Ministry said Ankara strongly condemns any act of violence that targets Afghanistan's peace and security.

"We extend our condolences to the families of the victims," they stated.
