Proportion of the population 65 years and over in the total population is announced to be 7.5 percent in Turkey in 2012.

TurkStat, Turkey's statistical authority, released the figures of "Elderly Statistics, 2012" on Wednesday.

Ratio of population 65 years and over in the total population was 7.5 percent in 2012. According to the population projections, it is expected that this figure will increase to 10.2 percent in 2023, 20.8 percent in 2050, and 27.7 percent in 2075.

In 2023, it is expected that Turkey will take place among the countries with rising elderly population as the rate of elderly population compared to the whole population would reach 10.2 percent.
