Turkey to restore ancient Moslem seminary in Afghanistan

Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) started restoration of a Moslem seminary where famous Islamic scholar Mevlana Jalal ad-Din Rumi's father Behauddin Veled taught and named after him in Afghanistan's northern province of Belh.

A group of Turkish civil engineers and scientists involved in restoration works who are supposed to prepare restoration project in accordance with the original building.

Speaking to Cihan reporter about restoration in Afghanistan Vice Rector of Turkish Gazi University Prof. Dr. Hakkı Acun stated that the seminary is believed was built in early thirteenth century and underwent a change in fifteenth century. “We had hard times to prepare the initial restoration project at the very beginning as the building fell into ruin seriously. It was very difficult event to determine the entrances of the building." said Professor Acun.

Reminding that Turkish Prime Minister promised Afghan leader Hamid Karzai during his visit to Afghanistan in 2005 to restore the seminary TIKA's General Director Afghanistan Kadir Karadoğan quoted that restoration project has been organized in cooperation with Metropolitan Municipality of Mevlana's homeland Konya.
