The Turkish branch of Doctors without Borders organization had sent a consignment of medical aid to the Gaza Strip, a representative of the organization in Gaza City said on Sunday.

"The consignment includes medications as well as medical tools," Mohamed al-Khatib told The Anadolu Agency.

The consignment, which included medical aid to the value of $1 million, had entered the blockaded coastal enclave through the Israel-controlled Kerem Shalom border crossing, according to al-Khatib.

The Health Ministry in the Gaza Strip had repeatedly complained of severe shortages in medical supplies amid an eight-year Israeli siege.

The strip, home to some 1.9 million Palestinians, saw three Israeli offensives within seven years, the latest of which killed 2,160 Gazans and left over 11,000 injured in the summer of 2014.
