Turkey's Istanbul University (IU) has been ranked among the world's top 400 universities.

In an annual listing of "top 500 universities of the world", China's Jiao Tong University ranked the IU as the world's 385th university.

In 2010, the IU was ranked as the 404th university of the world by the Jiao Tong University.

The IU is the only Turkish university ranked among the top 500 universities of the world.

The IU, as one of the oldest educational institutions, not only of Turkey, but also of the world, was founded when Mehmet the Conqueror conquered Istanbul in 1453.
