The population of Turkey, which is already one of the most populous nations in Europe, exceeded 75 million, a report indicated on Monday.
According to the report released by the Turkish Statistics Institute (TurkStat), Turkey's population was 75,627,384 at the end of 2012. The study was conducted through the Address-Based Central Population Registration System (MERNİS), which uses the National Address Database to track the number of people living at a specific address.
TurkStat data indicated that the population growth rate was 12 per mille in 2012 while this rate was 13.5 in 2011. Males made up 50.2 percent of Turkey's total population while 49.8 percent was female. There are 37,956,168 men and 37,671,216 women in Turkey's population.
According to the results, 77.3 percent of the population lives in urban areas, provincial capitals and districts. The rate was 76.8 in 2011.
