Turkey's rulling party MP candidate injured in knife attack

A Justice and Development (AK) Party MP candidate was injured on Saturday in a knife attack in Turkey's south-central province of Adana, Adana governor said.

Ramazan Demir, who has been campaigning in the Adana electoral district, was stabbed three times with a knife by two apparently drunk attackers.

The Adana governor Mustafa Buyuk said that the two drunk suspects, Faruk S. and Muhammet F. had been taken into custody by police officers at the scene.

“Ramazan Demir is not in critically injured and the incident is being investigated,” the governor said.

Ruling AK Party Adana MP and Culture and Tourism Minister Omer Celik confirmed the attack on his official Twitter account.

“Our MP candidate in Adana Ramazan Demir was assaulted with a knife and he has been transferred to the city center by ambulance,” he wrote.

About 56 million Turks will vote in the country's 25th general election to elect 550 lawmakers to the Turkish Grand National Assembly on June 7.
