Foodstuffs sent by IHH Humanitarian Aid Foundation have been distributed to Ethiopian people suffering from famine following draught in the African continent.
The aid including more than 35 tons of grain-cereals was first sent to Addis Ababa. Then, it was sent to the families in the cities of Abomsa, 280 km from the capital and Kofale, 350 km from Addis Ababa.
Osman Atalay, member of the IHH Executive Board, told the A.A that they sent aid to many places in the world thanks to Turkish people's helpfulness.
"We are hosting fast-breaking dinners and sending food packages to families in Ethiopia. Today's aid will meet monthly requirements of 540 families. Our aid to Ethiopian people will continue during the holy month of Ramadan," he said.
Throughout its history, periodic famine was a tragic part of the human condition in Africa. The United Nations says drought has left more than 12 million people across the Horn of Africa in need of food aid. The United Nations has appealed for $1.4 billion to help the victims.
