The Trade Union of Judges and Prosecutors (YARGI-SEN), founded by the former head of the Judges and Prosecutors Association (YARSAV), Ömer Faruk Eminağaoğlu, was closed down by the Ankara 15th Labor Court on Wednesday.
The Ankara Governor's Office filed a lawsuit against YARGI-SEN demanding its closure at the Ankara 15th Labor Court.
The lawyer for the governor's office, Eminağaoğlu and union members attended the court hearing in Ankara.
The governor's office stated that according to regulations on public servant unions in the constitution, judges and prosecutors are prohibited from having a union.
The judge, Ali Şahin, decided to close YARGI-SEN after listening to both parties' arguments.
Eminağaoğlu spoke to the press after the hearing, stating that he will appeal the decision and that if the verdict is not reversed, he will take the case to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) to gain the right to establish a union for judges and prosecutors.
