Turkish F-16 fighter jets are performing observations over the rebel-held Iraqi city of Mosul.
Mosul has been in the hands of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) since they captured the city on June 10.
ISIL forces have since been holding dozens of Turkish consulate staff and truck drivers hostage after ransacking the city and the Turkish consulate.
The ISIL, a breakaway group from Al Qaeda, has also threatened the Turkish territory of Suleiman Shah in the Syrian city of Aleppo as well as Turkey's mainland borders from their northern Syrian stronghold.
Turkey in response threatened to carry out air raids on ISIL bases in Syria if they attacked the Suleiman Shah territory.Last Mod: 17 Haziran 2014, 16:58
