Turkish folk music singer Kamil Sönmez died early on Thursday in an İstanbul hospital.
Sönmez, who was 65 years old, had been suffering from renal failure for the past two years. The singer was taken to an intensive care unit two days ago after he suffered a brain hemorrhage. Born in 1947 in the Black Sea province of Ordu, Sönmez was a successful performer of folk songs from the Black Sea region. The famous singer also worked as an actor.
Meanwhile, Leman Çıdamlı, a veteran actress who died on Wednesday due to lung cancer, was buried on Thursday in İstanbul's Maltepe district following the noon prayer. Çıdamlı, who was 80 years old, was best known for her portrayal of the character Nuriye Akman on the TV series “Kaynanalar” (Mothers-in-Law).Last Mod: 20 Aralık 2012, 17:12
