A Russian court refused the release of Turkish Greenpeace activist Gizem Akhan on bail, said Greenpeace in a written statement on Wednesday.

Russia detained 30 Greenpeace activists protesting a Russian oil platform to prevent it from drilling in the Pechora Sea, a section of the Barents Sea on September 19.

All 30 Greenpeace activists from 18 countries in custody are charged with piracy, which carries a maximum sentence of up to 15 years.
