It has been claimed that the recent systematic publications criticizing the Turkish intelligence chief Hakan Fidan was a reaction by the Israeli intelligence organization Mossad after being caught trying to recruit Turkish citizens.
About 18 months ago, Mossad agents attempted to recruit some Turkish citizens in Istanbul, Igdir, Van, Osmaniye and Konya into their ranks. However, the Turkish intelligence agency MIT prevented the operation from proceeding.
This was claimed by a Turkish journalist by the name of Abdulkadir Selvi, a correspondent for the Yeni Safak newspaper who is known for his close ties to the Turkish government. In one of his articles he listed the names and the organizations behind the attempts to darken the MIT chief Hakan Fidan’s image.
‘It is impossible to deny that Mossad was behind the targeting of Hakan Fidan,’ said Selvi. He added, ‘During our cooperation with the Israeli’s in the 90s, Israel’s secret service came to see Turkey as a base for their operations. However, when MIT’s counterintelligence intercepted them for the first time in its history, they suddenly realized that the playing field had shrunk.’
He mentioned that MIT’s counterintelligence operation stopped Israeli Mossad agents from recruiting and training Turkish citizens with ties to Iran as spies under the pretext these recruits, who were to be placed in Iran, may later be used against Turkey.
Furthermore, he named the Foundation for Defense of Democracies (FDD) as being the main and most influential organization behind the propaganda campaign against Hakan Fidan. Regarding the FDD, Selvi gave the following details:
‘(The FDD) was urgently established after the September 11 attacks against the United States in order to promote military action. The FDD is financed by donations of Jewish businessmen. The FDD organized the ‘International War on Terror’ conference held in 2006, which attracted the praise of former U.S. president George W. Bush. I believe it is enough to simply look at the FAQ section on the FDD’s official website to get a general idea about their activities…the FDD, which also contains elements of the Jewish coalition, led a campaign against Barack Obama during the elections. Currently they are known to be viciously criticizing Obama for his peace talks with Iran.’
